- AIA Salem Chapter President (2009)
Gene comes to us from the architecture mecca of Chicago, where he could walk to Wrigley Field and was inspired by the amazing buildings he saw each day. He earned both his Bachelor of Architecture and Masters of Architecture at Montana State University in Bozeman, Montana and returned to work as an intern architect in Chicago.
He relocated to Salem, Oregon working as both an intern and later in multifamily development, running performas on future projects, hiring the design teams, and working through construction financing, appraisals and loan closing. He also served as the owner’s representative through construction.
Gene distinguished himself in the community by being the lead architect for ABC’s Extreme Makeover: Home Edition, where he volunteered his time to create a state-of-the-art boy’s dormitory for the Oregon School for the Deaf. This project was recognized around the nation, putting Studio 3 on the map.
In 2002 Gene and Leonard created Studio 3.
