Meet Scott McDonald
Scott McDonald serves as an architect for Studio 3 . Scott’s main responsibilities include the development of architectural design and preparation of construction documents.
He returned to Oregon after moving to Las Vegas in 2008 to attend UNLV where he received his graduate degree in architecture and a teaching assistantship in the environmental controls curriculum. Before this he completed his B.A. from University of Washington. Scott is also an associate member of the American Institute of Architects.
In May of 2017, Scott earned his architecture license.
Meet Caylia Richardson
Caylia joined the Studio 3 team in February, 2014 as an office administrator. She recently graduated from Western Oregon University with a degree in Business. Caylia previously worked for a local photographer here in Salem, which made switching to an architecture firm very smooth. Photographers and architects view the world very similarly, they both want to show off the most beautiful version of the area around them, either through photos or through buildings.
Caylia volunteers at her church for a monthly event called Foster Parent Night Out. It is a program designed to give foster parents a much needed break and allows the kids to have a great time for 4 hours. Last year she participated in Bark for Life of Salem, which is a community event that raises money for American Cancer Society, while walking their dogs.
Meet Jim Toporek
Jim Toporek is an intern architect at Studio 3 Architecture. He received his Bachelor of Architecture Degree in 2014 from the University of Oregon. Prior to living in Oregon, he hailed from the Midwest. Here he worked for years as a carpenter while attending school at Gateway Technical College in Racine, Wisconsin, where he earned an Associate Degree in Civil Engineering Technology. Jim holds LEED accreditation and is passionate about his commitment to sustainability through design.
Jim was drawn to architecture by the social responsibility and client accountability of the profession. A profession where designers are entrusted with creating spaces where moments and days are spent, where lives begin and end. He is proud to be a part of that relationship on any scale. When Jim is not in the office, he is playing with his power tools or waiting for things to break so that he can fix them.
Meet Sarah Harris
Sarah Harris is an intern architect at Studio 3 Architecture. She received her Bachelor of Architecture in 2012 from NewSchool of Architecture and Design in San Diego. She is passionate about the environment, and focused the later part of her architectural education on ecotourism and structures that work in harmony with nature. Sarah recently received a certificate in Ecotourism Planning and Management from Humboldt State University.
When not at work, Sarah loves to design and build furniture, garden, hike, camp or just be surrounded by wildlife.
Meet Jillian Florence
Jillian Florence is an intern at Studio 3 Architecture. She received her Bachelor of Architecture with a minor in Urban Design from New School of Architecture and Design in San Diego, California. She joins Studio 3 with a wide range of experience particularly when it comes to hands on experience within the design/build side of the architectural profession. Her first few years after college were spent getting her hands dirty building on site and fabricating in a shop. Each project was unique to not only the client but also to the space in which it was designed for. Her attention to detail and her enthusiasm on learning not only the way things are built but also the process of how to build them has gained her invaluable knowledge in the architectural profession.
But her passion lies in the perception of architectural spaces, and how people truly experience space. Her passion is in designing spaces that speak to our emotions and influence our memories.
Meet Matt Johnson

Johnson is especially passionate about the impact that the built environment can have on individuals and communities.
